Deforestation and Water Pollution in the Philippines

The environment is very important to all living beings. That is why it is a necessity to know what an environment is and how we can help keep it healthy. Since we live on this planet, the more we build and take resources the more our natural resources are thinning, that is why we should replace the resources we use up to keep the balance. One of the 2 natural issues I want to let others know about, is deforestation. Based on an article I read online, the Philippines is one of the most severely deforested countries within the last 40 years.

Tracing back this year and the past years, the effects of deforestation have greatly impacted the country in one way or another. The Philippines is paying the price for the destruction of its forests. Not only is the countries forest naked, but it has also affected our soils causing erosion, which makes it harder to grow crops and plants. As a result of this, we face food insecurity. The trees are responsible for keeping away floods by absorbing water; keep the soil intact, which helps prevent landslides and also cleans our air from carbon dioxide by releasing oxygen, it is also a food source, a home for birds, insects, and animal life. That is why the forest should be well preserved.

Another issue is water pollution. Water is an essential resource in our daily lives, but Water pollution is a major problem in the Philippines. With the increase in population, agriculture, urbanization, and industrialization, the quality of water has reduced. Although the government tries its best to implement rules and regulations by fining polluters, a lot of problems aren’t being addressed. Even with rules, people are still polluting the waters, they are too complacent and unaware of the situations happening with our waters. As a result, we get water shortages in various areas, especially in dry seasons.

The best way to help clean and preserve the resources that we have is to promote them to people as young as possible. We should be stricter with our rules and not just focus on one problem. We should monitor the results daily. Set programs and campaigns to encourage people to participate. We have a duty to accomplish in this planet. We are abusing its resources. We should give back more than we take from nature since it is a source we use up daily. Without it, we wouldn’t be here right now.
