The Tragic Death of Tejano Singer Selena Quintanilla

Music industries have totally reinvented themselves upon producing more diverse songs throughout the years. The songs today have prominent trendy style and sound that is catchy to the current generation. However, despite all the trendy songs today, we always have those favorite old-school songs that'll always bring back nostalgia. One of the famous songs back in the 90s was the song titled 'Dreaming of You" by Selena Quintanilla-Perez, a song that was released in 1995 right after the singer's murder.

Brought up in a Mexican-American family, Selena was born on April 16, 1971, in Lake Jackson, Texas. She was the youngest of three children of Mexican-American Abraham Quintanilla and Marcella. Her dad adored music and has formed a band with Selena, her sister Suzette and brother A.B. Selena was only 6 years old, yet her dad claims he could tell she was bound for a career in music since she had wonderful pitch and timing.

Selena was later considered as the "Queen of Tejano," a kind of Mexican music that integrates various styles, like country and western. She was sometimes referred to as the "Mexican Madonna" for her attractive outfits and dance moves. Selena was at the tallness of her vocation, laying the foundation for her highly anticipated crossover into the English market.

However, a sudden tragic incident had not only took her dreams but as well as her promising young life. It was 1990 when Selena met Yolanda Saldivar, her childhood friend's aunt. Despite being a stranger, Saldivar managed to convince the family that a fan club would be a smart idea and claimed incredible adoration for the singer. Saldivar turned into the leader of Selena's fan club that soon acquired 9000 members.

Early March 1995, when Selena and her family were informed by their employees that Saldívar was stealing assets from their business and that she had effectively stolen more than $60,000. Selena and her dad confronted Saldivar. The Washington Post announced that Saldivar just said "OK" as she was fired over the telephone on the evening of March 29th. The following day Saldivar called back and made plans to meet with Selena to hand over some documents. On the morning of March 31, 1995, Selena went to the Days Inn in Corpus Christi to meet Saldivar. But just when Selena was leaving the room, Saldivar shot her in the back. Selena made it to the hall prior to collapsing. She was rushed to the hospital but had eventually died hours later.

Though Selena's life has untimely ended, she keeps on winning awards and sell records. Her posthumous song "Dreaming of You" became well-known and even went platinum, which just proved that though she's gone, she can still have her songs constantly played anytime and anywhere in the world.

That's all for tonight. Sweet dreams everyone!
