The Jersey Devil

There's always that one creature we used to be really scared of when we were kids. When we play too much outside and are stubborn to go home, elders usually scare us with creatures that come after children. Those memories never get old, so as those terrifying creatures we use to fear that up until now are embedded in our minds. Hence tonight's story is about the creature that used to lurk and feared by the residents of New Jersey. The Jersey Devil.

The Jersey Devil is a creature that originated from the Pine Barrens of New Jersey. It is frequently depicted as having hooves, a snake's tail, bat wings, and a head that looks something like a pony. While there are numerous accounts specifying the beginning of the Jersey Devil, sightings have been accounted for starting during the 1700s up until the previous decade. The creature is deeply rooted in old stories and legend around the area, is still somewhat well known in different media, from video games to sports teams. This Jersey Devil frequently glows, and it can inhale fire or poison water with its breath, both typical mythical serpent qualities. The Jersey Devil of fables is otherwise called the Leeds Devil. The local residents follow its starting point to a lady named Mother Leeds, the mistress of a British warrior who was associated with being a witch. At the time when she gave birth to her thirteenth child, she cursed it. The infant was brought into the world as a shaggy creature and before soon threatening the people and eating kids.

The Jersey Devil of present-day sightings has been described in various ways. The name has been applied to cryptids that pretty much look like the original Jersey Devil, yet it is also applied to practically every New Jersey cryptid believable. They described them as furry humanoids that take after Bigfoot, secret birds, and even Eastern cougars. One "Jersey Devil" sighting portrayed a bushy humanoid with a deer's head and sparkling red eyes. Several publicized fake news have scattered thus drifting researchers away from the topic.

That's it for tonight everyone. Have a pleasant night!
